The first thing you think about when it comes to early mornings; staying in bed.
Especially on a Monday right? I know that feeling far to well! Over the years I have slowly started appreciating early mornings and I’m here to tell you why. As as kid, teenager & adult, getting out of bed every morning is always a mission. We just want to stay in bed for those extra 5 minutes. Well, I’ve managed to overcome this need of sleeping in, or sleeping for that little bit more as I found it can do more bad than good!
Let me share with you my current morning routine.
Go to bed at 10:30pm, wake up; 5:30am, read until; 6:00am, do yoga until; 6:30am. breakfast is then made. 7:00am, I’ll start to get ready for work, 8:00am I leave for work. I cannot stress how important it is to have a routine. Routines are necessary!
This is what happens nearly every morning. However, I will not lie to you, some mornings I will sleep in a bit later. It happens.
But think about how productive you can be? A fresh mind when you wake up which enables you to get a couple of things done. It will make the rest of your day run so much smoother. If you’re like me and work a 9-5, finding time for yourself is really important. Therefore, having time in the morning and in the evening, makes a hell of difference.
Some of you may say; “but you’ve got time in the evening to do things for yourself”. Yes, very true, but after working 8 ½ hours, it can wear you out. Some evenings I don’t wanna do anything but get into bed and grab my Nutella and watch something on Netflix.
Also, make sure you eat a healthy breakfast & drink water. Feeding your body with greatness and watering yourself first thing is the start of a great day!
My breakfast consists of 0% Fat Greek Yogurt with a choice of fruit, usually blueberries or sometimes kiwi & a bottle of water which I try to finish before I leave for work.
Stay hydrated people.
Having a breakfast like this is very filling however, doesn’t leave you feeling heavy or bloated first thing in the morning. Trust me, we all know the bloat can be so real.
The combination of the yogurt and fruit will take a little getting used to, especially if you’ve never had this sort of breakfast before. Once you’re used to it, it honestly is very yummy!
Something that I have been doing for years that really helps with getting up early, is having your curtains open. The natural sunlight waking you up every morning is bliss. I’ve had many people say things like “someone could look into your room whilst your sleeping” or “that’s so weird that you sleep with the window & curtains open”, which I understand, but I live on the 2nd floor and my window faces a beautiful view of trees, so, I don’t think anyone will be looking into my room any time soon. Depending on where you live this may be an issue, but even if you have the curtain slightly a’jar, that morning sunlight makes a beautiful difference to getting up.
Early mornings don’t have to be bad thing, appreciate them, be productive, eat breakfast and prepare for the day ahead.
Just remember to Keep it Simple, Yeah?
